Our Mission

Our Mission

Angel Horses is a unique human service organization located in Billings, Montana.

Our mission is to provide positive physical and emotional stimulus to the Senior community, especially those afflicted with Alzheimer’s, at-risk youth, special needs children and individuals and families affected by cancer, through the use of rescued animals such as horses, donkeys, dogs and cats in a therapeutic environment.

Our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

In the photo depicted above, Billings Mayor Tom Hanel, Bill Kennedy (President of MSU-B Foundation) and County Commissioner Denis Pitman joined Angel Horses’ founder, Jonnie Jonckowski and numerous supporters, donors and volunteers to celebrate Angel Horses’ new home during the official ribbon cutting ceremony!  A dream realized!

Jonnie Jonckowski, founder of Angel Horses, Inc.

Meet our founder, Jonnie Jonckowski:

Jonnie Jonckowski started Angel Horses in 1998, running it out of her home until 2017 when Angel Horses purchased a bigger property in west Billings.  Angel Horses uses rescued horses and donkeys, giving them a second chance by providing comfort and compassionate care for our senior ‘shut-in’ community, cancer patients and their caregivers, veterans, at risk youth and special needs kids. Angel Horses provides lunch / snacks, entertainment (someone plays guitar and sings) based on the individuals or groups visiting. The horses enjoy being touched and brushed as much as the folks enjoy doing so! Services are provided at no charge to those who suffer physically, emotionally, spiritually and financially.

Jonnie says, “I am blessed with a family that loves me and instilled my love for Jesus Christ at an early age and for this I am most grateful. This is why Angel Horses was born, the need to spread God’s love through human touch, care of animals and not to ever forget our neighbor!” Jonnie’s life motto is: Never give up! When you think you have done enough, guess what? You can do so much more!

Jonnie’s love of animals carries through in her daily life where she lovingly cares for the animals and visitors of Angel Horses. Jonnie enjoys time spent in her cart, driving her Norwegian Fjord ‘Yoda’. She is also a wood carver and in-home personal fitness trainer.

Yoda, a Norwegian Fjord, was a special gift to Angel Horses. His owner was able to make the cross country trip and deliver his cart and harness. Jonnie spent time with his owner along with Tom assisting, as she learned how to ‘drive’ Yoda. Jonnie and Tom spent hours training so the pleasure and fun of riding in the cart can be part of our visitors experience!

Angel Horses' Services

The services that Angel Horses offers meets needs and requests not offered by other similar organizations and therapeutic riding groups.

We are not a rescue organization, but rather we use rescued animals in a therapeutic environment.  Some of the animals come to us from a situation of abuse and neglect; others have grown too old to serve their owner/rider the way they used to so they become disposable and in some cases, owners have fallen on hard times and can no longer keep their best friend.  Angel Horses offers an intimate experience with a personal touch.  We are a therapeutic environment, quaint and serene, trees and foliage, western décor, fresh air, blue skies with a great view of the surrounding rim rocks, mountains and rolling hills.  The trickling sound of water features, the heat of gas and live fire pits, toasted marshmallows, the critters and the volunteers invite you to put your feet up and stay a while!

All sessions and visits are private, either individuals or groups.  Angel Horses can also make arrangements to bring some of the animals to certain other locations. Most services are provided at no charge; fees, when charged, are based on the needs and number of people participating.  Financial assistance may be available upon request.
